Swami Brahmeshananda is a senior monk of the
Ramakrishna Mission, who was ordained a Sannyasin (monk) in 1980.
By training, Swami Brahmeshananda is a physician,
having done his M.D. in Medicine from MGM Medical College, Indore, in 1964, and
specialization in Gastro-enterology from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences
(AIIMS), New Delhi.
After joining the Ramakrishna Mission in 1971 at its
centre at Raipur, Swami Brahmeshananda started and conducted a polyclinic
He served as a medical consultant in the Ramakrishna
Mission’s 230 bedded hospital, the Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama, Varanasi, for
22 years.
He had been the
Editor of “The Vedanta Kesari”, one of the two English monthly journals of the Ramakrishna
Mission, for 3 years. During this period he conducted a Study Circle for the
students of IIT, Chennai, and regular sessions of guided meditation.
Swami
Brahmeshananda has visited Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa on preaching
mission. He can speak and write, both in English and Hindi and has three books
in Hindi, four in English, two translations to English and more than 150 articles to his credit. He has
also translated a number of books from English to Hindi. He has written a
number of articles on the themes related to Medicine, Health and Religion,
which have been compiled in a book form entitled, ‘Health, Medicine and Religion’.
He has addressed various forums and
has been the resource person in various occasions.
